Dental Emergencies

It’s important to seek the right care for persistent or painful dental problems.

Dental Emergencies - North Benton Dental Care

Tooth Ache

Begin by cleaning around the sore tooth meticulously. Using warm salt water, rinse the mouth to displace any food trapped between teeth. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you use aspirin on the aching tooth or on the gum. In the event of facial swelling, apply a cold compress to the area. For temporary pain relief, ibuprofen is recommended. See a dentist as soon as possible.

Cut or Bitten Tongue, Lip or Cheek

Ice can be applied to any bruised areas. For bleeding, apply firm (but gentle) pressure with sterile gauze or a clean cloth. If the bleeding does not stop with pressure or continues after 15 minutes, go to an emergency room.

Broken Tooth

Rinse the area with warm water. Put a cold compress over the facial area of the injury. Recover any broken tooth fragments. Many times, a tooth will break without causing any pain. In this case, call your dentist’s office during normal business hours. If a broken tooth causes continuous pain, get immediate dental attention.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth

Recover the tooth, making sure to hold it by the crown (top) and not the root end. Rinse, but do not clean or handle the tooth more than necessary. Reinsert the tooth in the socket and hold it in place using a clean piece of gauze or cloth. If the tooth cannot be reinserted, carry it in a cup containing milk or water. Because time is essential, see a dentist immediately.

Possible Broken Jaw

In the event of jaw injury, tie the mouth closed with a towel, tie or handkerchief. Go immediately to an emergency room.

Broken Braces and Wires

Remove a broken appliance only if it comes out easily. If it is lodged or painful to remove, cover any protruding edges with wax, cotton balls, gauze or chewing gum. DO NOT REMOVE any wire caught in the gums, cheek or tongue; see your orthodontist as soon as possible. Emergency attention is usually not required for loose or broken appliances that cause no discomfort.

Bleeding After a Baby Tooth Falls Out

Fold a piece of gauze and place it (tightly) over the bleeding area. Bite down on the gauze for 15 minutes; if bleeding continues, see a dentist.

Cold or Canker Sores

Over-the-counter medications will usually provide temporary relief. If sores persist, visit your dentist.

I love this Dentist Office so much, that even after I moved and switching Dentists would have been more convenient, I chose to stay. Friendly staff, everything is always clean and sterile, and the Drs actually seem to remember me and ask questions about things we haven’t touched on in 6 months!!Really great atmosphere and they also always try and work hard to get myself and two kids all seen at the same time so we aren’t there all day!-Amanda

I am now able to go to North Benton Dental with little to no anxious feelings. The staff are all so friendly and professional. I definitely recommend North Benton Dental!

I have always hated going to the dentist. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it. In fact, I hated going so much so that I put off going for a long time.I would be remiss if I didn’t share that the team at North Benton has turned those negative feelings into positive ones for me.Everyone employed at North Benton is nothing short of phenomenal. From start to finish, they are professional, courteous and kind. Every hygienist I’ve worked with has made me feel comfortable and safe. Rachel in particular made me so much less anxious by being transparent with me every step of my cleaning, offering to let me take breaks when needed and even laughing with me. The employees at the front desk are always cheerful and patient as well. Please give North Benton a try - you and your mouth won’t regret it!

I’ve always had good experiences with the staff here. Today was my first visit with Chelsey as my hygienist and she was so delightful! So friendly and informative! I love that they show you pictures and explain what they’re seeing going on with your teeth so you know the best course of action when it comes to preventative.
